"The laity can...cooperate with their pastors in the service of the ecclesial community, for the sake of its growth and life. This can be done through the exercise of different kinds of ministries according to the grace and charisms which the Lord has been pleased to bestow on them." (Catechism, #910).

Alcoholics Anonymous (Freedom Group) A.A. is a fellowship of men and women who suffer from an incurable disease called alcoholism. Open meetings are held on Saturday evenings in the cafeteria at 8:30, fifty-two weeks of the year. All are welcome to attend and hear a presentation providing information about alcoholism. A.A. also has closed meetings, for alcoholics only, where the 12-step program is pursued. Meeting schedules can be obtained at the Saturday night gathering.

Athletic Association. This group of men and women encourage and support athletic programs for the young people of the parish. They raise funds, recruit and train coaches, provide equipment and sponsor teams in soccer, basketball, and baseball.

Bingo Workers. Bingo takes place each Monday at 8 p.m., each Saturday at 1 p.m.. Bingo proceeds are used to support our parochial school. Men and women volunteers usually work once a month.

Boy Scouts. The Boy Scouts of America offer programs for boys to develop into mature citizens, with an emphasis on character development. Cub Scouting is for boys in grades 1 through 5, and Boy Scouts are in Grade 6 and up.

Card Flights. Couples meet in each other's homes once a month for an evening of cards. The entire group gets together once a year for a pot-luck dinner, fellowship, and, of course, cards.

Crossroads. Crossroads is a multi-parish Catholic Community of single adults, forty years and older. Activities include Arts and Crafts, Bible Study, Book Club, Bowling, Cultural Events, Dining Out Club, Faith Sharing, Golf, Hiking, Liturgies, Movie Club, Retreats, Sailing, Single Parents Sharing, Travel and Volleyball. Girl ScoutsThe Girl Scout Program offers young women a chance to develop their potential, make friends, share in community service, and better understand themselves and others. Brownies are ages 6 through 8, and Juniors 9 through 11. Registration takes place each Spring and Fall.

Golden Nuggets. The Nuggets are one of two groups for Senior Citizens. Members are 55 and older, and afternoon meetings take place on the second and fourth Tuesday each month. The group offers social, spiritual, and leisure activities.

Holy Name Society. This society helps the men of the parish meet both their spiritual and social needs. Monthly meetings, held on the first Tuesday of each month September through June, begin with the rosary , include a guest speaker on a topic of interest to members, and end with a social hour. The monthly Mass is held on the second Sunday of each month at 9:00 a.m., followed by refreshments in the cafeteria for the whole family. The Society Communion breakfasts, and sponsors an annual retreat, pilgrimages to local shrines, bowling and golf leagues.

Home Visitation. Parishioners bring Holy Communion to parish members who are elderly or sick and confined to their homes, enabling them to receive the Eucharist more frequently. The ministers take the Blessed Sacrament with them as they leave Mass, and go directly to the home of the person they visit! Training is provided.

Ladies of Charity. These women undertake charitable projects, such as crafting items for the homebound; knitting, crocheting, and sewing items for needy infants, children and elderly; making baptismal bibs for newborns; and making rosaries for the missions and for parish use. The Ladies also are involved in Catholic charities and the Red Cross Bloodmobile. They meet the second Tuesday of each month.

Lifeteen. A new vision of teen ministry, Lifeteen meets the spiritual, educational, emotional, and social needs of the high school student. It helps the teen develop a personal relationship with Christ -through the Mass, prayer, and retreat opportunities. Lifeteen teaches the theology of the Catholic Church through creative techniques, discussions, and personal experience. It provides an atmosphere where teens can express their feelings and experience the unconditional love of Christ. Lifeteen helps teens to become a part of the parish community. The heart of Lifeteen is the weekly Mass on Sundays at 5:30 p.m. from September through May, with program following.

Ministry of Praise. Parishioners provide spiritual support for the parish and the universal Church, by offering prayers and sacrifices at home. A Monthly newsletter suggests specific intentions and forms of prayer.

Outreach. Volunteers provides service of all kinds for people in need. Outreach offers food, clothing and household goods, assists families at times of crisis or bereavement, and links people with specific needs with appropriate social service agencies. Outreach also supports missionary efforts in foreign lands. The Outreach Office is in the former convent.

St. Vincent dePaul. In the spirit of their patron, the men of the St. Vincent dePaul Society meet on Tuesday evenings to promote their primary goals, namely, caring for the poor and the sick. An extensive food pantry is maintained to provide emergency provisions for the needy. Members visit the sick each week at Kenmore Mercy Hospital.

Parish Council. The principal advisory group to the pastor, the Council consists of selected, appointed, and "ex-officio" members. The Council studies issues and concerns, evaluates present policies, and recommends new programs. Monthly meetings are announced in the bulletin and are open to all parishioners. Committees include Facilities, Finance, Liturgy, Parish Life, Stewardship, Youth, School Board and Religious Education Board.

Quest. This is an organization sponsored by Catholic parishes for young adults ages 21 to 40. Quest fosters opportunities for growth in the areas of spirituality, personal enrichment, social interaction, and Christian service. Quest is committed to making members feel welcome and empowering young adults to bridge the challenges of life and faith. Contact Quest Events Hotline at 688-5678 ext. 315.

Senior Club. One of two groups for people 55 and older, the Senior Club provides social interaction, spiritual enrichment, and opportunities for travel. They meet on the first and third Tuesdays, in the afternoon.
