What Is Life Teen?

LIFE TEEN is an international program that originated in Mesa, Arizona (www.lifeteen.com). It follows the Church’s mandate to make Jesus Christ the center of everything that we do. It’s centered on Jesus, in particular, Jesus in the Eucharist. LIFE TEEN is a total youth ministry program that tries to reach teens of all kinds. This means teens of different social and economic groups, different culture and race, different interests, talents and spiritual maturity. LIFE TEEN is open to all high school teens, freshman through senior year. Teens of all faiths are welcome to come!

Through the LIFE TEEN Mass and our Sunday and Wednesday Religious Education program, high school teens learn more about their Catholic faith and grow to love the sacraments, the Word, and the Mass. LIFE TEEN is more than just Religious Education, we offer all St. Amelia teens and their friends social, service, spiritual and sporting activities throughout the year. (Permission slips can be printed, or downloaded from this site) Our goal is to create an environment where teens feel loved, accepted, and compelled to reach deeper into their faith.

CORE Team: This group of men and women encourage and support athletic programs for the young people of the parish. They raise funds, recruit and train coaches, provide equipment and sponsor teams in soccer, basketball, and baseball. The LIFE TEEN CORE Group, whenever possible, is comprised of adults who are at least out of high school and who are preferably not a parent of a current high school teenager. The main job of a CORE member is to reach out to the teens, both on an individual basis and on a group basis. The CORE members help to plan and implement all LIFE Nights as well as the social, service, spiritual and sporting activities throughout the year. A diverse CORE group of adults of different experiences, ages, educational and professional backgrounds help to bring a great deal of creativity to the program.

   Responsibilities of the CORE member:
      · Attend the LIFE TEEN Mass and mingle with the teens to encourage their participation in mass.
      · Plan and implement several LIFE Nights a year.
      · Share faith with the teens and have fun while doing it!

LIFE TEEN has been a part of St. Amelia Parish since 1994. Hundreds of teens have experienced the program and have learned a great deal about their faith. Some of our teens, upon graduation from high school, come back to LIFE TEEN and even more of them come back to be CORE members!

The LIFE TEEN Mass: We have our own music ministry that plays contemporary Christian music during mass. Teens are involved with the music, are the ushers, the lectors, and some are the Eucharistic Ministers. The homily is geared toward the teens.

LIFE Nights: Previous topics of discussion include the sacraments, Nicene Creed, Who is Jesus?, Pro-Life issues, drug and alcohol abuse, self-esteem, respect, peace and justice, just to name a few.

LIFE TEEN Mass is at 5:30 Sunday evenings from September to the first week in May, with the program following until 8:30 p.m.
