Kids Coloring & Crowning Contest
It has been a long-standing Catholic tradition to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary in May. St. Amelia Church held a special virtual May Crowning on Friday May 1st presenting Mary with a crown, a litany of prayers and songs to signify her queenship as the mother of Christ, the King.
In most Catholic churches (and even in many Catholic homes), a “May Altar” is erected with a statue or picture of Mary, flowers, and perhaps candles. The altar stands from May 1 to 31 as a reminder of Mary’s importance in the life of the Church and in our own lives as well.
To celebrate our Blessed Mother this month of May, we are holding a two-part contest for our children grades PreK3 – 8th grade. You do not have to participate in both (although you can), just choose one: The Coloring contest or the Crown for Mary contest. All entries for both parts are due by Tuesday May 26th (details are below). Winners will receive a special prize and have much fame on our website and social media pages.
Show us your artistic side by coloring a special photo of our Blessed Mother. You can print off your own picture of Mary, Mother of God or you may find one here: http://www.supercoloring.com/coloring-pages/tags/mary-mother-of-jesus to print off and color, and then submit it in the contest. You can use colored pencils, markers, crayons, water color – whatever your creative side desires.
Once complete, have mom and dad help you take a photo of your coloring page and post it on our Facebook event page https://www.facebook.com/events/1208403292824791/?active_tab=about If your parents do not have Facebook, they can email your photo to email@example.com and please be sure to include your name and grade you are currently in.
As a suggestion, (this is not part of the entry process) you can mail in your beautiful coloring page to us. Be sure to include your name and grade on the back. We will display them proudly at St. Amelia School and Church. Our mailing address is:

We are asking that you be creative and design your own crown for Mary. You can use flowers (real or silk or hand made from tissue paper). We have even seen some crowns made of glistening metal and synthetic jewels. Use whatever you can and make it special to honor our Blessed Mother.
Have mom and dad help you take a photo of your special crown and post it on our Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1208403292824791/?active_tab=about
If your parents do not have Facebook, they can email your photo to firstname.lastname@example.org and please be sure to include your name and grade you are currently in.
As a suggestion, (this is not part of the entry process) you may leave your crown for Mary outside St. Amelia Church by the statue of Mary, or place the crown on your May Altar at home.
