Welcome to our New Music Director
My name is Steven Gruhella, and I am pleased to introduce myself as your new Music Di-rector here at St. Amelia’s. I am originally from Pitts-burgh, PA, and attended college at Niagara University. While at NU, I began my music career as the choir director for the student Mass and held on to that role for four years. After graduation, I returned to Pennsylvania for a couple years, where I continued to employ my love of music as a fill-in at various parishes.
In 2012, I returned to Western New York to be closer to my (now) wife, and I again made myself available to various parishes including NU, All Saints, St. John the Baptist and Immaculate Conception, as a substitute pianist.
In 2015, I became the Campus Minister and Mu-sic Director at the Newman Center at the University at Buffalo. Within my role at the Newman Center, I was responsible for planning and executing retreats, service immersion trips, Bible studies including many other student activities. I was also charged with providing opportunities for Praise and Worship Eucharistic Adoration, planning our music for weekly Liturgies, arranging and implementing monthly Taizé prayer, and much more.
In 2016, after dating for eight years, I married my wife, Ashley at NU. In 2019, we welcomed our first child, Elias, into the world, and we are so blessed by him.
I am honored to be here at St. Amelia’s, and I truly look forward to meeting you and working with you, as we raise our voices in praise to our great God.
